PASSER SIDC keeps taking on more projects in response to market demands. One such project is the manufacturing of tender and stern doors for yachts.

Yacht design and purpose dictate specifications for doors. Tender garage or hull doors follow the shape of yacht hull and are engineered for maximum functionality in line with standards for aesthetics. This practical door can be placed at the front or at the end of the ship. It offers access to the tender or opens up a view to the sea, taking a private yacht suite to the next level. Stern doors are located at the back of the boat and align with the shape of the beach platform. These doors are designed to provide easy access to the water for swimming, diving, or boarding a tender. All doors must be durable, weather-resistant to meet the toughest sea conditions, and seamlessly integrate with the overall aesthetic of the yacht.

Fabrication of yachting doors and hatches requires specialist knowledge, including attention to details and precision. At PASSER SIDC, we took on to combine our expertise in shipbuilding and stainless and aluminium equipment to produce custom-designed door systems for yachts to meet customer needs.

Our first project started in February 2024 for a client who ordered four types of hull doors and a deck hatch. Hull door is a vertical construct while the hatch is in a horizontal position. These doors were custom engineered to suit the shape of a particular yacht hull. The client supplied the design for these doors, and we adapted it for the fabrication.

The side doors reached 3,1 meters’ in height and 9,3 meters’ in width. Their weight, including the coamings, was around 9 tonnes. The aforementioned set of doors was fabricated, assembled, and preadjusted in our workshop in Klaipeda and then delivered to the shipyard in the Netherlands for the final installation and commissioning. All doors were installed in November 2024.

This door project was unique and challenging at the same time as we had to work with aluminium. This material is difficult to work with due to aluminium’s nature. We had to apply specialist knowledge and use special equipment to handle it. Our team worked closely with the client throughout the entire process to ensure that hull doors and a deck hatch met their specifications and exceeded their expectations.
