PASSER SIDC encourages its employees to excel in their professional endeavours as well as participate in extracurricular activities. Many sports enthusiasts work here, and the company promotes and supports participation in these movements. This positive approach assists in motivating teams, highlighting their unity and the potential arising from mutual support.
This time, PASSER SIDC Head of Sales Rimantas is in the spotlight. With the company’s support, he is sailing across the Baltic Sea from Klaipėda to Norway, where he will compete in the Double Handed World Championship. Anything can happen here in the presence of water and wind.
Passion for sales and sailing
Rimantas joined PASSER SIDC in late 2021, bringing his over 15 years of experience in the sales industry and passion for sailing. Company input and financial contribution into sports helps to counterbalance the daily challenges of the profession. Rimantas observes this as a very positive and uplifting development.
During almost 40 years of sailing, Rimantas has won over 140 trophies in the Lithuanian sailing. This list includes the Curonian Lagoon Regatta (multiple times), national titles, club regatta prizes, and the European Youth Vice-Championship.
The yacht Samsara became a loyal companion for Rimantas. He describes it as the best vessel in terms of parameters, size, complexity, capabilities, and budget for the puprose of sailing it double-handed (only two persons as a crew).
Sailing across the Baltic Sea
On the delivery trip to racing venue, Samsara will accompany Rimantas on an ambitious 600-nautical-mile expedition across the Baltic Sea, taking approximately five days from Klaipėda to Oslo. The paramount objective is to reach the destination safely, so meticulous preparation is essential. This includes thorough planning, provisioning of food supplies, travelling stage management, and a well-organized crew shift schedule.
Unlike a leisurely Mediterranean cruise, this journey is more akin to a demanding undertaking with non-stop navigation, weather permitting. The latter dictates the menu in addition to the demand for meals. A gas burner and oven provide the convenience of serving hot breakfasts, steaks, and dinners on board. According to Rimantas, smooth sailing allows leisurely activities such as reading books. In contrast, during severe weather, the crew will seek refuge in ports and wait for it to calm down. It will capture these moments to share with everyone.
Regatta
The Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) organizes the Double Handed World Championship for keelboats with two sailors on each boat. The championship is scheduled to run from 8 to 16 June 2024 and will be a part of Oslo Race Week. This non-stop sailing regatta will last around 72 hours, starting in Oslo and finishing in Tønsberg. The event will run alongside the traditional Færderseilasen. Currently, there are around 80 yachts registered, and at this time, the Samsara crew is the only team from Lithuania.
Sustained sailing requires evenly distributed force and staying alert for as long as possible. Additionally, transitioning between sailing in the fjord and sea may pose some challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly prepare from a technical standpoint and accumulate sufficient experience.
The entire PASSER SIDC wishes Rimantas success in anticipation of moments from the sailing as well as the results of the regatta.
The company will continue to promote sports initiatives and provide its employees with the support they need.
